Today is another very exciting day for Florida Atlantic University. I am pleased to announce the current Chief Financial Officer for the state of Florida has agreed to join FAU as Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Chief Financial Officer.
Jeff Atwater, who brings to FAU years of experience in finance in the public and private sectors and executive leadership in Florida as a member of the Governor’s cabinet, will lead the university’s strategic initiatives and economic development opportunities, and manage the university’s budget. As a vice president, he will serve on the university’s Executive Leadership Team, which reports directly to me.
Jeff is one of Florida’s most respected and successful policy makers, and it is wonderful news that he has agreed to join us as we strive to become America’s fastest improving university.
Jeff replaces Dorothy Russell, who retired as FAU CFO on Jan. 31 after a decade with the university and a 40-year career in higher education. David (Art) Kite was appointed Interim Vice President for Financial Affairs on Feb. 1. Jeff will join us here after the conclusion of the 2017 legislative session.
Jeff will combine his role as CFO with overall responsibility for a wide array of economic development opportunities, including identifying and establishing public-private partnerships, and formulating unique initiatives that align with the university’s strategic plan.
As the sitting CFO of the world’s 16th largest economy — the state of Florida — Jeff will bring the level of Unbridled Ambition™ we seek every day to FAU. Please welcome him once he arrives here in South Florida.
Go Owls!
