Research - My scholarship efforts have focused on horizontal violence and bullying in the workplace particularly in the healthcare arena. With the support of an American Nurses Foundation grant, I developed and tested the Horizontal Violence Scale (Longo & Newman, 2014). I have presented and published nationally, regionally, and locally on the topic of workplace bullying, and I have worked with the American Nurses Association on their initiatives to address bullying and workplace violence. Currently I am exploring the relationship between horizontal violence, healthy work environments and patient safety.
