BOCA RATON, FL (November 18, 2011) - Florida Atlantic University's Adams Center for Entrepreneurship and the College of Business will host the 2012 FAU Business Plan Competition, in which FAU students, alumni and members of the business community will be invited to compete for a share of more than $200,000 in cash and prizes, on Thursday, April 12 and Friday, April 13, 2012. For the first time, the competition also will include a high school track for juniors and seniors from local high schools to participate and compete to win a four-year scholarship to FAU.
The deadline for individual registration is Sunday, February 19, 2012, and final business plans must be submitted by Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 5 p.m. The registration process coincides with National Write a Business Plan Month, which takes place throughout the month of December.
The 2012 FAU Business Plan Competition provides an opportunity for participants to compete and test their business ideas. Individuals or teams may submit an innovative business plan in one of three categories: the Entrepreneur Track, which is designated for alumni and members of the business community at large; the Student Track, which is open to current FAU students only; and the High School Student Track, which is open to current juniors and seniors from local community high schools.
To compete, participants must complete the online registration. A screening committee made up of FAU faculty and South Florida business leaders will narrow business plan submissions to a total of 20 business plans to compete in the final-round event. Teams participating in the competition will have the opportunity to meet and network with experienced venture capital principals, early-stage angel investors, successful entrepreneurs and senior business leaders who will serve as judges for the competition.
Competition highlights include:
- Real-world opportunities to learn what is required to successfully launch a new business venture;
- A chance to receive mentoring and feedback from investors and experienced entrepreneurs; and
- Prizes valued at more than $200,000.
