FAU Campus Vice President Gerri McPherson Announces Retirement
BOCA RATON, FL (May 14, 2009) - Florida Atlantic University Northern Campuses Vice President Gerri McPherson will retire on June 30, 2009, concluding a 36-year career in public education. McPherson, an FAU alumna, took on her role as campus vice president in 2004 after serving for three years as a university Board of Trustees charter member. She currently oversees the Treasure Coast Campus in Port St. Lucie and the John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter.
“Gerri’s tireless commitment and lasting contributions to not only FAU, but to the State of Florida’s education system have been nothing short of remarkable,” said President Frank T. Brogan. “Her high-energy, enthusiastic involvement as an administrator, an esteemed board member and an alumna has truly been a gift to our university. Gerri’s diligent work has laid a solid foundation for the future of FAU’s northern service region”
“Serving as a proud member of President Brogan’s executive leadership team has been beyond rewarding and will remain one of my most treasured professional experiences,” said McPherson. “It has been an honor to be part of the economic development and higher education initiatives that have made this region a phenomenal spotlight in the State of Florida.”
As of July 1, FAU will transition to a more consolidated governance structure for the partner campuses. The current vice president of FAU’s Broward campuses, Dr. Joyanne Stephens, will assume responsibility for oversight and coordination of operations on all partner campuses in the newly created position of Vice President and Associate Provost of Regional Campuses. Dr. Stephens’ primary emphasis will be on coordinating the academic offerings, support services, community partnerships, and campus-based missions of the regional campuses in a manner that best serves the University’s overall strategic mission. The new position will hold a dual reporting line to the Senior Vice President for Strategic Relations and the University Provost.
“Throughout Dr. Stephens’ 20 years of experience with FAU’s Broward campuses, she has developed a complete understanding of partner campus operations and the importance of meeting regional needs,” said Brogan.
