FAU Constructs Student Union at Davie Campus
DAVIE , FL (May 7, 2007) – Florida Atlantic University currently is constructing its latest addition to FAU’s Davie campus. A Student Union will comprise the first phase of the next major building on this campus, located at 2912 College Ave., Davie.
“As this project comes to fruition, university life experiences will only continue to grow and prosper for all students at the Davie campus,” said FAU President Frank T. Brogan. “The best days are yet to come.”
Once completed, the $6 million, 20,000-square-foot Student Union will consist of a multi-story facility located at the northwest end of the existing Liberal Arts building. The facility will include spacious offices for student government and campus organizations, a multipurpose area and student lounge, a bookstore, food service for students, as well as a health auxiliary and business support services area.
“ I think it is great for Broward Students that FAU is expanding in Davie ,” said Ruth Rader, governor of FAU’s Student Government for Broward campuses. “The new Student Union will have study rooms, multipurpose rooms for clubs to hold events, and the student government offices will be together, instead of spread out over campus, so it will be more cohesive. It will be a great place for students to hang out or study.”
The new student union also will house a student health center combining the student mental health counseling center and a medical center offering the care of a nurse practitioner. Adjacent to the building will be an outdoor area for students to use for assemblies, concerts and social interaction.
“We’re very excited with the addition of the new FAU Davie campus Student Union,” said Marion Merzer, associate dean of student affairs at FAU’s Davie campus. “Students will now have a place to call home on the Davie campus that will provide space and programming to meet their needs.”
The building will be completed in Spring 2008.
