FAU United Nations Delegation Wins National Award
BOCA RATON, FL (April 21, 2009) – The Model United Nations delegation from Florida Atlantic University received a Distinguished Delegation award for its participation in the 2009 National Model United Nations simulation in New York City. Established in 1997 in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and administered through the department of political science, the FAU Model UN Program has won three consecutive national awards.
The New York conference is the largest and most prestigious simulation of the UN, with more than 5,000 students from over 300 universities competing. FAU represented Canada in the 2009 event, where schools from five continents used the UN facilities for their deliberations.
The FAU Model UN program is generously supported by the Schmidt Family Foundation and the United Nations Association of the Palm Beaches. The program is grateful to Mr. Brian Mulroney, former Canadian Prime Minister, who conducted a policy briefing with FAU’s student-delegates.
