FAU Names Monica DeTure as Assistant Provost for eLearning

               

BOCA RATON, FL (March 9, 2011) – Florida Atlantic University has named Monica DeTure, Ph.D., as the assistant provost for eLearning. DeTure will be responsible for the development and administration of the University’s new Center for eLearning, and she will develop, monitor and oversee FAU's eLearning capabilities by leading and facilitating the University's efforts to implement eLearning across all academic disciplines and programs.

“Monica’s professional experience in eLearning will surely assist in the development of Florida Atlantic University’s new center,” said FAU Interim Provost Diane Alperin. “Monica is here to ensure that FAU is providing ideal eLearning opportunities for all of the University’s students.”

            In this capacity, DeTure will collaborate with FAU’s 10 colleges, as well as its schools, departments and faculty to facilitate new eLearning courses and programs, and enhance existing courses. She will also oversee instructional technology, including training, supporting, and assisting faculty and staff who utilize eLearning, as well as manage the day-to-day operations of the new center, which includes supervising staff. DeTure will also work directly with the provost to implement FAU's academic and technological strategic vision.

Before coming to FAU, DeTure was the director of distance learning and outreach  technology at Auburn University since 2007, where she was responsible for overseeing distance learning courses and programs, both credit and noncredit, as well as facilitating the development of new credit and noncredit workforce development programs. She also held the position of assistant vice president of instruction at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, North Carolina from 2005 to 2007; served as the director of academic technology at SunGuard Higher Education/Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas from 2004 to 2005; and served as the director of educational research and manager of the Center for Instructional Design at Florida State College in Jacksonville from 2001 to 2004. 

            DeTure earned a Ph.D. and a master’s degree in instruction and curriculum, educational technology and instructional design from the College of Education at the University of Florida, and she holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in interdisciplinary fine arts from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina.
