FAU Holds Reception to Mark Florida 2008 Republican Presidential Primary Debate

BOCA RATON, FL (February 6, 2008) – A crowd of close to 300 FAU supporters and community leaders attended a special reception on Thursday, January 24 prior to the start of the Florida 2008 Republican Presidential Primary Debate.   Hosted by President and Mrs. Frank T. Brogan, the reception was held in the Student Services building on FAU’s Boca Raton campus.   The lobby, normally a hub for students, was transformed into a reception venue thanks to a patriotic theme complete with red, white and blue linen, balloon arcs, flags and stage lighting.   An ice sculpture in the shape of a burrowing owl was specially designed for the gathering.   Background music was provided by a student jazz trio.

As the reception came to a close, many of the guests and dignitaries in attendance proceeded to the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium in the Student Union to be part of the debate audience.   With millions of television viewers watching the live broadcast of the debate, FAU took center stage.   The campus welcomed approximately 400 members of the media who covered the debate and its accompanying activities.  Broadcast live from FAU were the Nightly News with Brian Williams, as well as MSNBC shows Hardball with Chris Matthews, and Morning Joe with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.

The debate was sponsored by Leadership Florida, the Florida Press Association and Florida Public Broadcasting Service, Inc. and televised by NBC and MSNBC.   FAU sponsors for the debate include The GEO Group, Office Depot, JM Family Enterprises, Inc., Woolbright Development Inc., AutoNation, The Caron Foundation, the Alan B. Larkin Symposium on the American Presidency, Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, P.A. and The Pugliese Company.   FAU is additionally grateful to the following sponsors for their in-kind contributions: Dell Computers, JKG Group, PaeTec, The Residence Inn, Toshiba and Chartwells.
