Biosafety Cabinet Certification
All Biological Safety Cabinets (BSC) must be certified at least annually. BSCs are also required to be re-certified when they are repaired and/or moved. The certification sticker must be visible on the front of the BSC and should include the date of certification, the name of the person who performed the service and the date for the next certification.
Certifications are performed by properly trained and authorized personnel. Currently, FAU EH&S contracts with the following company to provide this service:
Biosafety cabinet certifications are scheduled by the Biosafety Officer (BSO) in consultation with the specific labs requiring the service. The BSO will contact the labs during the month the certification is due for scheduling. The fees for annual certifications are paid by EH&S. However, any repairs that are required for BSCs to achieve certification are the responsibility of the lab.
If labs are looking to purchase new BSCs, please contact the Biosafety Officer for consultation prior to ordering.
