Student Privacy & Parental Access
Student Records and Privacy
Pursuant to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, students and their parents are advised of certain practices and procedures at Florida Atlantic University which relate to student records. Once students reach the age of 18 or are enrolled in a postsecondary program, parents no longer have any rights to student information under this act. However, parents or other interested parties can obtain access to their student’s account activity. Students may give the Office of the Controller, Tuition & Billing Services written consent to release the information to other individuals by completing the FERPA waiver form. For further information regarding the FERPA waiver form please contact the Registrar’s Office.
May Parents Use the Password-protected Services for Online Billing?
For billing purposes a student may set up an authorized user for their account. Setting up an authorized user will allow an individual to view account details, view monthly statements and make payments. Setting up an authorized user does not grant the same permissions has having a FERPA waiver form on file.
