Math Placement Criteria & Scores
Florida Atlantic University's Mathematical Sciences Department and the Institutional Effectiveness & Analysis
Department have developed a new set of criteria to determine math placement for newly incoming freshmen
students. The criteria will be based on high school grade point averages (GPA) and/or ACT/SAT scores. The
criteria have been equated into two new test scores to help academic advisors facilitate proper advising of
math courses based on the major. These new test scores are entitled "MPF1 - Math Placement Multi-Factor
1" and "MPF2 - Math Placement Multi-Factor 2". Every student's record starting from Spring 2019 will have
both score types.
The criteria for each math course offered at FAU and its equivalent MPF1 score are as follows:

Transfer students without prior math coursework and dual high students will still be able to take the ALEKS as
a placement exam.
