Dr. Precious Skinner-Osei is a researcher in justice-oriented social work, with a particular focus on the wide-ranging effects of incarceration. Her work not only addresses the challenges faced by incarcerated individuals but also examines the profound impact on their families and communities. Her research spans key issues such as paternal incarceration, trauma-informed care for juveniles, substance abuse, reentry, recidivism, and family reunification. She has also studied the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on justice-involved populations. Her research is instrumental in shaping reform efforts within care systems and has significant implications for social work practice, advocacy, and future research. As an educator, Dr. Skinner-Osei is committed to providing students with experiential learning opportunities. By partnering with community organizations, she ensures that students gain valuable real-world experience through practical assignments, preparing them for both the workforce and graduate studies. Mentorship is a cornerstone of her teaching philosophy. She has supervised graduate teaching and research assistants, co-authored peer-reviewed articles with undergraduate and graduate students, and guided students through internships and community-based projects.

Dr. Skinner-Osei's contributions to the field of social work have earned her numerous accolades. She was awarded the Presidential Award for Community-Engaged Teaching and the National Association of Social Worker Educator of the Year, honored by student-athletes as the Honorary Faculty Guest Coach, and her teaching was recognized by a local community agency, Poverello Becomes a Classroom for FAU Students.

Dr. Skinner-Osei is an active member of several professional organizations, including the National Association of Social Workers, the National Organization of Forensic Social Work, and the International Association of Schools of Social Work.
