2021 Presidential Award Recipients

Congratulations to Patricia Gustafsson, LCSW on receiving the 2021 Presidential Award for Community-Engaged Service and to Dr. Precious Skinner-Osei on receiving the 2021 Presidential Award for Community-Engaged Teaching! 

Patricia is actively engaged with many local agencies as a field faculty member finding exceptional learning opportunities for Social Work students. During the pandemic, she has provided community workshops on emotional responses and mental health. Prior to the pandemic, she provided several workshops in Brazil to promote positive mental health, expanding her community-engagement internationally.  

Before COVID, Precious was known for taking her students into the community – to local food banks, thrift stores, local HIV/AIDS walks, local detention centers – so students could learn about our community’s needs and observe how social workers respond. By doing so, Precious both empowers her students to identify and implement projects while also working alongside them as a collaborator.
