• Weaving through the Abacoa neighborhoods are the Greenways. These areas of preserved, natural Florida eco-systems are enhanced to provide a habitat for wildlife
• The Greenways also provide people with the opportunity to enjoy and study natural Florida without leaving their own backyard

• Antigua is a live/work community consisting of 280 two and three-story townhouses

• Upon development, the creators of Abacoa worked to restore the entire Greenway back to the native habitat of the gopher tortoise, which includes the gopher tortoise preserve
• 182 of the 260 acres of the Greenway is devoted to the native gopher tortoise preserve

The Scripps Research Institute, or Scripps Florida for short, is located on the FAU MacArthur Campus in Abacoa. The institute conducts basic biomedical research supported by cutting-edge technologies.

• Scripps Florida is made up of three buildings comprising 325,000 square feet of land on 30 acres. As of January 2011, there were 40 faculty and 400 total staff members employed
• Doctoral (PhD) programs are offered in chemical and biological sciences on this campus
