Major Knowledge

Major KnOWLedge is an early exploration tool that helps FAU students identify personal interests and their relationships to career pathways. Major KnOWLedge involves two steps: 1) complete a career interest inventory, and 2) meet with the FAU Career Center to review your results.

Handshake

The FAU Career Center has partnered with Handshake - a modern career development platform to be your one-stop-shop for launching your career. The FAU Career Center preloaded your profile to help you get started, but please log in and complete your profile at https://fau.joinhandshake.com/. Features and benefits of Handshake include scheduling appointments to meet with career professionals, searching and applying for jobs and internships, finding upcoming career events and more.

What Can I Do With This Major Database?

This database was created through a collaborative effort with FAU faculty, staff, students, alumni and employers. It contains links for all FAU majors. For each FAU major students will discover applicable job titles, job and internship links, industry information links, as well as related FAU student organizations. The content and resources are representative of typical career paths associated with each major.

InterviewStream

InterviewStream is a free interactive online video-based practice interviewing tool which uses a webcam to record and practice your interviewing skills. InterviewStream helps prepare you for various scenarios, including initial screenings, behavior-based questioning, and panel interviews. You have the ability to select the type of questions you want to answer, as well as the recording format: audio and video, audio only, or written.

At the conclusion of your Practice interview, you can review your responses and save or rerecord them. If you seek additional advice, share your responses with your career counselor and discuss other interview techniques. If you don’t have a webcam, you can call 561-297-3533 to schedule a time to practice your interviewing skills in the Career Center. Have a webcam? You can conduct an interview right now!

SLS1301: Career & Life Planning

This course is offered for students who are undeclared and provides an overview of career development theories and decision-making skills for career/life planning. It focuses on self-assessment, choosing a major, exploring career options and developing an action plan to help achieve career goals. The course engages students in the use of critical thinking skills in evaluating their interests, values, skills, and personality in order to understand how personal characteristics influence career choices. Students who take this class will: complete online career assessments inventories; conduct informational interviews; formulate an action plan for achieving career goals; use various information resources to research academic majors and career options.

MAXIENT Reporting Form

Students can ask for assistance through a single point of service.

The MAXIENT Judicial software has been structured to track a wide range of confidential student concerns including academic alerts, policy violations, appeals, violations of law, behavioral concerns, attendance concerns, health concerns, and CARE Team referrals. In addition to its administrative function, this software is used to identify students at high risk of attrition. Data is entered into Maxient from a wide variety of sources on a daily basis and may prompt immediate interventions based upon the severity of the concern.

Health & Wellness

OCHP’s Campus Clarity “Think About It”

A training program designed to minimize risks associated with alcohol, drugs, and sexual violence and empowers students to make healthy choices. Additionally, it provides social norming information that will be used to further educate and clarify these issues for the student population.

Ask the Expert

“Ask the Expert” is a service that assists students with finding answers to question about their health and well being. Students can submit questions through this service and experts from the Owls Care Health Promotion staff respond to their questions with the most pertinent, useful, and current information on the subject.

Student Accessibility Services (SAS’s) Clockwork Online Portal

Services include online registration for support services (academic accommodations), online appointment booking, retrieve Academic Accessibility Agreement (AAA) letters that notify faculty of approved accommodations and test booking.

Accessible Format Materials Portal

The Accessible Format Materials Portal is a free service provided to all FAU students, faculty and staff. This service is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and is implemented by Student Accessibility Services within the Division of Student Affairs. This is part of FAU’s ongoing commitment to provide the highest level of accessibility to all members of the FAU community to promote innovation, inclusion and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Assistive Technology

Texthelp Read & Write literacy software will provide comprehensive Text to Speech reading tools along with many cutting edge study and writing tools. It will offer the ability to listen to text read aloud, word definition lookup, translation, study note creation and organization, mind mapping and writing outline creation. Texthelp software product which utilized web authentication This software will also allow students the option to access an FAU download link to utilize the software for use on their personal computers and mobile devices.

Intake Interviews

SAS can schedule phone and /or skype interviews for students that are in the online degree programs. This interview will give you an opportunity to meet your SAS consultant. You will be asked to provide information about your experience of disability, barriers you’ve encountered, as well as effective and ineffective prior accommodations. Your appropriate accommodations will then be determined based on an interactive process between you and your SAS consultant. You will also receive information about other support services available at FAU.

Stress and Time Management

Try out a relaxation techniques for 5 to 10 minutes to relieve stress through-out the day. Incorporate them into your daily self-care routine along with our other strategies for managing stress. Alcohol Assessment

An interactive web survey that allows you to enter information about your drinking patterns and receive feedback about your use of alcohol. The assessment takes about 10 minutes to complete, is self-guided, and requires no face-to-face contact time with a counselor or administrator.

Marijuana Assessment

An interactive web survey that is a brief marijuana-specific assessment and feedback tool. It provides you with insight about your marijuana behavior and risk factors. The assessment takes about 10 minutes and is self-guided making it quick, confidential, and flexible to your schedule.

Watch Your BAC app

If you choose to drink alcohol, reduce your risks by monitoring your Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) with our free smartphone app for both iPhone and Android. To download, search for the “Watch Your BAC” app. For more information, visit

Kognito

Kognito is an interactive professional development program designed for faculty, staff, and students and is aimed at advancing a military friendly collegiate environment.

Military & Veterans Affairs Resource Team

Virtual POCs (point of contacts) that work directly with military and veteran students.  Virtual POCs answer general questions pertaining to admissions and enrollment and interface with other departments to ensure military and veteran students receive the assistance they need.

Webinars

We offer webinars for parents to attend live or after they have aired (in recording). Webinar topics vary according to topics that are useful to parents (financial aid, campus involvement, role as a parent, etc.).

Our website in general is a resource for parents on many topics (money matters, transportation, experiential learning opportunities, etc.)

Weppner Center for LEAD & Service-Learning

Service Cords

Enrolled students whether on a campus or as a distance learner would be eligible to apply for a Service Cord to be worn at graduation. The major requirement is completion of 400 service hours as an undergraduate student or 200 hours as a graduate student. As long as the hours can be verified by our office, any graduating student is eligible to apply.
