All students are invited from across Florida Atlantic!
We are hosting our inaugural Science Social to build our community of future scientists and help our new undergraduate students engage with the college through learning about all the opportunities we offer. Students can learn about degree programs, research opportunities, meet with advisors and student organizations, speak with faculty members, connect with special units in the college such as the Office of Pre-Health Professions, and more.
Academic Advisors
Academic advisors will be available from each academic department: Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Exercise Science and Health Promotion, Geoscience, Mathematics and Statistics, Psychology, Physics, and Urban and Regional Planning.
University Offices
You can also meet with representatives from University Undergraduate Advising (UUA), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Owls Care, Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry (OURI), the Career Center, the Science Learning Center, Continuing Education, along with student clubs and organizations.
Student Organizations
Including the Pre-Health Ambassadors (PHA), American Medical Student Association (AMSA), Pre-Dental, Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS), Black Men in Medicine (BMM), Blood Pressure Screening Association (BPSA), Pre-Student Osteopathic Medical Association (Pre-SOMA), Black Women in Medicine (BWM), Medi-Futures, Soar-in-4, and many others.

Deadline to Apply to Compete: October 4, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Students at all stages of research are encouraged to participate, even those early in their study.
The Science Social Undergraduate Research Poster Competition includes cash awards to the top poster presentations. Schmidt College of Science undergraduate students will have the opportunity to showcase their research projects and innovations. The research projects or innovations should have generated tangible and meaningful results and findings by the submission of the PDF of their research poster (including research abstract). These poster competition awards are generously sponsored by the Dr. Eric Shaw Excellence in Science Undergraduate Research Award to create a platform and opportunity for students in the Schmidt College of Science to participate in the communication of scientific research to their peer groups, faculty and community members. The student poster presentations will be judged by faculty members based on a judging rubric. Eligibility for participation in the Undergraduate Research Poster Competition: Students completing a major in the Schmidt College of Science are eligible and invited to apply.

Competition Details
- Student applications including PDF of research poster must be submitted by October 4.
- Students will be notified via email of acceptance to present at the poster competition by October 7.
- All OURI posters and presenters from the college are eligible to participate in the poster competition but must submit an official application by October 4.
- Only degree seeking Schmidt College of Science undergraduates can be presenters and are eligible to win any of the prizes.
- Students are responsible for printing out their posters in time for presentation on October 17.
Poster Guidelines
Posters should include project title, student name, student advisor’s name, and any other co-authors, student’s college and advisor's college, and the following sections: abstract, hypothesis/research question(s), methods, results, discussion, summary.
Participants are encouraged to use the FAU approved poster templates.
FAU’s Student Government provides supplemental services for research poster printing. Please submit your request for service five (5) business days ahead of your intended pickup date. Click here for more information about how to request the printing service.
