Doctoral Program

Florida Atlantic University offers a Ph.D. degree in Experimental Psychology. Graduate students in our program specialize in one of the following four research areas of psychology.

  • behavioral neuroscience
  • cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience
  • developmental psychology
  • social/personality psychology

The Ph.D. graduate program requires 80 semester hours of coursework beyond the bachelor's degree, in addition to a comprehensive examination and a completed dissertation research project. Ph.D. graduate students are accepted on a full-time basis and are expected to finish degree work in 4-5 years.

If you are interested in Neuroscience, you can also apply to a separate Neuroscience program at FAU that works in partnership with faculty from the Department of Psychology in the Schmidt College of Science: The Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute developed and oversees the interdisciplinary Ph.D. “Neuroscience – Doctor of Philosophy” Program.  The program provides students a different opportunity to pursue Neuroscience at FAU. During the first year, students will have the unique opportunity to rotate in three neuroscience laboratories across multiple colleges and departments. 
 
The Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute is looking for bright, motivated students who have an inquisitive mind and a passion for neuroscience research. Work alongside world-renowned faculty who are utilizing novel techniques to perform cutting-edge research in cellular, molecular, and biomedical neuroscience; sensorimotor, cognitive, and behavioral neuroscience; and theoretical and computational neuroscience.
