About the Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology at Florida Atlantic University is situated across three campuses –Boca Raton, Davie, Jupiter. The department includes 25 faculty members that serve undergraduates and graduate students. Key areas of research include Behavioral Neuroscience, Cognitive and Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental Psychology, and Social/Personality Psychology.
Undergraduates can earn a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology or a Bachelors of Science degree in Neuroscience & Behavior through a joint program with the Department of Biological Sciences. Together, the degree programs account for an undergraduate student body of over 2100 students. As well as taking courses, students are encouraged to participate in research projects being conducted by our faculty. Many of our students go on to careers in academia and the business sector.
Graduate students can earn a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Experimental Psychology, and a Master of Arts degree in Psychology. There are currently 55 graduate students enrolled in our programs. The graduate programs place a strong emphasis on research in addition to coursework, seminars, and professional development opportunities. Students in our programs have gone on to successful careers in both academia and industry.
Many faculty members are affiliated with the Center for Complex Systems & Brain Sciences. Neuroscience represents a defining area of emphasis at FAU and the Department of Psychology faculty are actively involved with the Brain Institute (I-BRAIN), Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, and University of Florida-Scripps Research Institute. Psychology faculty are also actively involved with the Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering (I-SENSE), offering unique research and training experiences. Many faculties have national and international collaborators, so there are many rich opportunities for student involvement!
