Schmidt College of Science to Host Annual Pre-Health Professions Week

January 2024

FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Science is gearing up to host the 2024 Pre-Health Professions Week. The annual event will begin on Monday, March 18 and run through Friday, March 22, and aims to provide students with several opportunities to explore health-related graduate programs. All events will be held on the Boca Raton campus and are free and open to FAU students, alumni, and the surrounding community.

This year, the event will highlight several areas such as artificial intelligence and FAU Health, along with student clubs and activities. The schedule also includes several panels, including a physician panel, FAU medical student and FAU Future Doctors Acceptance (FDA) for 2024 FDA student panel, and workshops by pre-health professions admissions representatives and deans.

“Attending this type of fair gives students the opportunity to learn about the process of applying to pre-health professions, admission requirements, and what resources are available to them - all in one place,” stated Ana Botero, academic advisor, Pre-Health Professions Program, Schmidt College of Science. “I enjoy seeing the interaction of our students with the admissions representatives from participating schools and all the activities our students offer throughout the week.”

The Pre-Health Graduate and Professional School Fair will take place on Thursday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the Sanson Science Patio. This special day is an opportunity for FAU’s undergraduates, graduates, and the community to talk personally with admission representatives from various health-related graduate professional programs. Some of the featured programs include medical, dental, pharmacy, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, chiropractic, veterinary medicine, optometry and more.

Fifteen pre-health professions student organizations are collaborating with the Schmidt College of Science’s Pre-Health Professions Office to provide informative workshops and activities for the fair, including a suture workshop, personal statement workshop and tips on the MCAT exam, among others. This year’s participating student organizations include the Pre-Dental Association, American Medical Student Association (AMSA), Pre-Student Osteopathic Medical Association (Pre-SOMA), American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), Pre-Health Ambassadors (PHA), Students of Physical and Occupation Therapy (SPOT), Friends of MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders), Black Men in Medicine (BMM), National Society of Black Women in Medicine (NSBWM), Association of Pre-Physician Assistants (APPA), Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS), Pre-Physician Assistants (Pre-PA), Blood Pressure Screening Association (BPSA), Medical Missions Abroad (MMA) and Pre-Optometry.
