New Minor in Health Humanities Available in Spring 2025
Tuesday, Oct 29, 2024Florida Atlantic University’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters has launched a new minor in Health Humanities, which was recently approved and added to the University catalog . Available beginning in spring 2025, the interdisciplinary program is designed to help students better understand humanistic and social issues related to health and medicine across cultures, places, and times.
The Health Humanities coursework will also help develop several of the American Association of Medical College’s professional competencies that are expected of today’s medical students. The minor is open to all undergraduate students at Florida Atlantic.
“Through the perspectives of the arts, humanities, and social sciences, this new Health Humanities minor will augment our students’ academic experiences,” stated Evonne Rezler, Ph.D., senior associate dean for Undergraduate Studies, Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. “Undergraduates who are interested in health-related careers will gain a broader perspective about the underlying, complex issues surrounding public health.”
Requirements for the minor include the completion of 15 credits with a minimum overall GPA of 2.0. Students must complete at least 12 credits at the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, of which at least nine credits must be at the upper-division (3000-4000) level.
