Announcing the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences
Monday, Oct 05, 2020
The Charles E. Schmidt College of Science welcomes Sarah Milton, Ph.D., as the chair of the Department of Biological Sciences. Dr. Milton previously served as the interim chair for the department, beginning in 2019, and continues to serve as a professor of biological sciences.
Dr. Milton joined FAU in 1992, and has held a number of leadership roles, which include the Associate Director of the graduate program in Integrative Biology, and co-director of the M.S. in Marine Science and Oceanography.
As chair of Biological Sciences, Dr. Milton oversees research and teaching on the Boca Raton, Davie, and Jupiter campuses. The department is home to the largest undergraduate major at the University, and one of the most active areas of research, which range from environmental science, organismal biology, and neuroscience, to marine science. In addition, the department has interdisciplinary collaborations across the University, and with world-class research institutions, such as the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and Scripps Research Institute, both on Florida Atlantic’s Jupiter campus.
Dr. Milton’s research is recognized through international publications, is supported by federal funding, and provides advances in areas of climate change impacts and sea turtle conservation. She has nearly 50 peer-reviewed publications covering a broad range of topics.
We look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Milton on building the future of the department and the college.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Sarah Milton as the chair of the Department of Biological Sciences.
