Teaching Philosophy

First, seek to understand, then seek to be understood. I believe in reciprocal learning both in the brain and in the classroom. My approach to teaching represents my profound respect for its inspiring and transformative power. I hope to foster the development of critical thinking skills by encouraging skepticism which promotes thoughtful analysis and consumption of information. I develop my courses to support an inclusive educational environment. We are all learning from one another’s differences and celebrating the opportunity to share in the wholeness of our human experiences. Most importantly, I allow myself to make mistakes and recover. I aspire to demonstrate to my students that classes, higher education, and life can be challenging and enjoyable, even when you make errors. I want to convey the feeling of camaraderie between my students and myself so they know we are all in this thing together. Same storm, but different boats, nevertheless, together.
