Art of Science: Art of Science Judge: Marva White

Finding the Artistry in Science

As a first-time judge for the Division of Research’s sixth annual Art of Science photography and videography contest, Marva White, said she is awed when theoretical and written research become tangibly visible through art.

“The Art of Science contest celebrates innovation by showcasing diverse research efforts through creative visual interpretations, inspiring our community,” said White, newly appointed associate director for marketing and communications for Florida Atlantic’s Graduate College.

Through her new role, she amplifies and promotes FAU's various graduate programs. White said she utilizes her passion for education backed with nearly two decades of marketing expertise to approach graduate students in a unique way. Her background in marketing along with her love of learning is another topical example of how two different things, like art and science, can come together to produce something wholly new and exciting.

“My creative experience from marketing will provide grounds in assessing how artwork explains scientific concepts in a creative way,” White said. “Which I believe is important when evaluating turning science into art.”

Outside of academia, White said she enjoys a variety of things, from travel to an afternoon of solitude with a good read. White said, one of her favorite quotes is the famous "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page."
