The Florida Atlantic University Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors
The Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors was established in 2019 to honor the innovative accomplishments of FAU researchers and to support the mission of the academy to increase greater public understanding of the vital role research, innovation and technology plays in our society.The National Academy of Inventors (NAI) is a member organization comprising U.S. and international universities, government agencies, and non-profit research institutes. Currently there are over 4,600 individual members affiliated with more than 260 institutions worldwide. The NAI was founded to recognize and encourage inventors with U.S. patents, enhance the visibility of academic technology and innovation, encourage the disclosure of intellectual property, educate and mentor innovative students, and to create wider public understanding of how its members’ inventions benefit society.

Fellow: The NAI Fellows Program was established to highlight academic inventors who have demonstrated a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development and the welfare of society. Election to NAI Fellow status is the highest professional distinction accorded solely to academic inventors.
Senior Member: NAI Senior Members are active faculty, scientists, and administrators with success in patents, licensing, and commercialization and have produced technologies that have brought or aspire to bring, real impact on the welfare of society. They are rising stars who foster a spirit of innovation within their communities and institutions while educating and mentoring the next generation of inventors.
Inventor Member: Membership in the FAU chapter is open to university faculty who have received at least one issued patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Chapter members are automatically enrolled as members of NAI, with all rights and privileges thereof. To apply for membership as an Inventor Member, please complete and submit a membership application.
Honorary Member: The FAU chapter recognizes members of the university community, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and affiliates, who materially support and advance technological development and innovation. Honorary members may not vote or hold office in NAI.

The FAU chapter of NAI, in partnership with FAU Wave, offers a mentor program designed to match faculty members who are NAI chapter members with students participating in the Wave competition. Benefits for students and faculty participating in the program include:
