Welcome to the Professional English Language Support Program

The Professional English Language Support (PELS)’s mission is to provide resources and instruction to help domestic and international multilingual and multidialectal students attain their academic and professional goals by enhancing their writing and speaking skills and to provide faculty with support specific to teaching professional English writing to multilingual students. 

The PELS Program offers free half-semester courses, workshops, support materials, and faculty engagement.

PELS:

  • Values multilingualism in our diverse community and establishes points of contact across cultures
  • Serves the professional and academic needs of graduate and undergraduate multilingual, and multidialectical students across different fields of study
  • Prepares multilingual and multidialectical students to be valuable members of the workforce and larger society
  • Promotes critical language awareness 
  • Supports faculty in teaching and responding to the needs of multilingual and multidialectical students

Register for Spring 2025's PELS 6003 THESIS AND DISSERTATION WRITER WORKSHOP 

When? Schedule: JANUARY 28 - APRIL 8

Tuesdays - from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm - IN PERSON

Course Description: This 10-week course is designed for multilingual domestic and international graduate students writing their thesis or dissertation. This course provides short lectures on writing the thesis and dissertation, in-class writing time and collaboration with other students, workshops on student writing, and discussions on thesis/dissertation writing strategies. Students will have access to resources and receive individual feedback on their progress from the instructor and a small cohort of peers. YOU MUST BE WRITING YOUR THESIS OR DISSERTATION WHILE ENROLLED IN THIS COURSE.
