Greetings and welcome to the website of the Anne Boykin Institute for the Advancement of Caring in Nursing (ABI)!
In August, 2020 Dr. Anne Boykin decided to step down as the Director of the ABI while continuing to serve as a Board member. The Board selected me to succeed her as Director. Assuming leadership of the ABI is a great honor, responsibility and joy. The ABI is an integral part of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. It was formed in 2012 with the goal of becoming a global catalyst for promoting the universal visibility and significance of caring in nursing. With Dr. Boykin’s dynamic leadership and the dedication of a Board of internationally-recognized scholars in caring science, the ABI launched initiatives that have already had significant impact.
The ABI mission is to: provide global leadership for nursing education, practice and research grounded in caring science; 2) promote the valuing of caring across disciplines; and 3) support the mission of the College of Nursing. You will notice our logo, the tree of caring knowledge (above) depicting the many branches of caring science contributing to the knowledge of the discipline of nursing. The ABI is engaged in dynamic initiatives such as: hosting annual summer academies attracting participants from around the world to dialogue about caring in various areas of nursing and to develop concrete actions for transformative change; building a library of resources on caring and caring science accessible on our website; and creating faculty learning circles that encourage our faculty’s growth in studying and applying caring knowledge in teaching, research and practice.
The ABI is in process of developing a new strategic plan that will inform our future directions. We invite your participation with us by exploring our website, accessing our resources posted on the website, attending summer academies, and communicating with us through abi@health.fau.edu. We’d love to hear from you.
In caring,
