Nurses Christian Fellowship (NCF)
Nurses Christian Fellowship (NCF) is both a Christian professional organization and a ministry of and for nurses and nursing students. NCF is a ministry of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.
In response to God's love, grace and truth:
The Purpose of Nurses Christian Fellowship, as a ministry of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA, is to establish and advance in nursing, within education and practice, witnessing communities of nursing students and nurses who follow Jesus as Savior and Lord: growing in love for God, God's Word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture and God's purposes in the world.
What is NCF Student Ministry?
As a nursing student, your educational experience is unique. You have one foot on campus and one foot in the real world of nursing. You attend demanding classes and care for sick people in clinical settings. You experience new and challenging situations as you learn to care for people from the beginning to the end of life. And you also learn to care for the whole person, paying attention to physical, social, psychological, and spiritual needs.
In this intensive learning process, you and your fellow nursing students may be seeking answers to big questions about life, suffering, death and how to offer hope to your patients.
Nurses Christian Fellowship helps you navigate these questions and find a foundation for your life and nursing practice that is centered in the love and truth of Jesus Christ.
Opportunities
On campus, NCF brings nursing students together in authentic communities to study the Bible, explore how to follow Jesus in life and nursing, and offer the love of Jesus to their classmates and faculty. NCF provides experiences and resources to help students grow in their faith, develop as leaders, and to view nursing from a Christian, biblical perspective. Find out more about the history and purpose of NCF.
- Be equipped with resources to help you grow spiritually. Gather your nursing friends and check out the NCF Bible studies that integrate faith with nursing practice. The spiritual care resources will help you understand and recognize spiritual needs and how to give appropriate spiritual care.
- Be engaged in actively following Jesus and being part of God’s mission on campus. NCF students are looking for more than a Christian club or support group. They want to see God transform their lives and the lives of others around them.
- Be encouraged as you and your peers go through rigorous training programs and transition into nursing practice. Join with other nursing students to explore the Bible to learn how to handle stress, care for grieving families, and much more. In your NCF group, you can pray for each other and find encouragement for all facets of your life.
NCF is not only a ministry on a local campus; it is also a professional organization for nursing students, nurses and educators. As a nursing student, now is the time to become a member of the NCF professional organization and receive the
Journal of Christian Nursing
. Since 1984, JCNhas equipped nurses to integrate issues of faith with nursing practice. NCF members have full online access to more than 30 years of articles, a valuable resource for students, faculty and researchers. Nursing students receive a significant discount in membership fees. NCF and InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
What is the relationship between NCF and InterVarsity Christian Fellowship?
Nurses Christian Fellowship is a strategic ministry of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship that focuses on reaching nursing students and faculty. We recognize that nursing students have “one foot in school and one foot in the real world of healthcare.” Therefore the spiritual questions that nursing students ask are unique to their context. They may experience ethical dilemmas, wonder how they can integrate their faith with nursing, and desire to know how to give spiritual care. NCF also knows that when nursing students are involved in clinicals, it may be harder for them to attend other fellowship gatherings on campus at times and in locations that work best with their complicated schedules.
Because we are part of the larger family of InterVarsity, NCF students and faculty have the opportunity to be involved in InterVarsity conferences, campus fellowships, training events, and other ministry opportunities. InterVarsity also has focused ministries for art students, international students, athletes, and students in the Greek system.
