M.D. Student Tuition Refund Policy

The COM adheres to the FAU policy on tuition refunds. Withdrawal or dismissal will result in a graded refund of tuition and fees as indicated below, consistent with Florida Atlantic University Regulations 8.002, "Fee Assessment and Remittance", 8.003, "Special Fees, Fines and Penalties", and 8.006, "Waiver of Tuition and Other Fees". The date of withdrawal is the last date of attendance, which is confirmed by the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions, or designee for that semester.

  1. Students who withdraw from the University before the end of the first week of classes will receive a full refund, less nonrefundable fees.
  2. Students who withdraw from the University during the second through fourth weeks of the current semester for purposes other than exceptional circumstances will receive a 25 percent refund, less nonrefundable fees.
  3. Students who withdraw after the fourth week of classes will not receive a refund, unless the withdrawal takes place due to exceptional circumstances, such as illness, military conscription, or death of an immediate family member (see FAU Regulation 4.013 Exceptional Circumstances) Medical students who would like to seek consideration of exceptional circumstances should submit their requests to the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions, or designee at the College of Medicine for assistance with complying with University Regulation 4.013. Situations such as employment changes, relocation of home, transportation problems, dislike for the instructor/course, etc. are not considered "exceptional circumstances." For more information, see University Regulations.
  4. All third-party charges, including health and disability insurance, must be negotiated directly with the carrier or plan. If enrolled in the Florida Atlantic University Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) through Insurance for Students (IFS), you remain enrolled until the end of the coverage period for which you have paid. There is no option to terminate your coverage unless you enter the armed forces. In that case, you will be refunded a prorated share of your premium.  If enrolled in the Insurance for Students (IFS) Disability Insurance Program offered by FAU, the policy allows a prorated return of unearned premiums.
