Year 4 Visiting M.D. Students and Electives
The following information pertains to eligible year 4 medical students who are interested in applying for an away/audition rotation at FAU College of Medicine.

Visiting Student Course Descriptions
Description: This clinical rotation will expose students to the specialty of General Surgery. Students will have the opportunity to learn by examining and providing care for patients, with a focus on the most common surgical problems. Students will be part of the inpatient surgical team. Students will participate in admissions, rounds, consultations, surgeries and discharge activities. Students will care for a panel of patients. The importance of work ethic and interpersonal skills will be emphasized.
Course Goals:
- Familiarize students with history taking skills to provide excellent consultation in surgery.
- Students should continue to improve their skills with physical examination.
- Familiarize students with diagnostic tools that are used frequently in surgery.
- Students will have the opportunity to participate in surgeries.
- Familiarize students with evidence-based treatments for surgical disorders.
- Familiarize students with the appropriate follow up once treatment is initiated.
Block length: 4 weeks
Night shifts: Possible
Weekends: Yes, 1-2 per month
Educational Activities: Students should participate in educational activities available at the rotation site if there is no interference with their responsibilities for patient care.

Students will have the opportunity to learn by examining and providing care for patients, with a focus on the most common medical problems. Students will be part of the inpatient medical team. They will participate in admissions, rounds, consultations, and discharge activities. They will care for a panel of patients. The importance of work ethic and interpersonal skills will be emphasized.
Course Goals:
- Familiarize students with specific history taking skills to provide care for patients with complicated internal medicine problems.
- Students should continue to improve their skills with physical examination.
- Students will become familiar with the diagnostic tools that are used frequently in internal medicine.
- Familiarize students with evidence-based treatments
- Familiarize students with the appropriate follow-up once treatment is initiated.
- Students will become more efficient at managing a panel of patients.
Block length: 4 weeks

Weekends: Yes, 1-2 per month
Educational Activities: Students should participate in educational activities available at the rotation site if there is no interference with their responsibilities for patient care
Description: This rotation offers medical students a challenging clinical experience in emergency medicine with a broad range of clinical pathology, in a closely supervised environment. The student will work eleven 10-12 hour shifts when rotating for four weeks, some of which must be at night. . Students attend a five-hour didactic conference each week at Bethesda Hospital East. Students will learn the basics of emergency medicine with one on one instruction from board certified attending physicians. Students will be exposed to history taking and physical exams. They will determine a diagnosis and plan of treatment for each patient. The importance of work ethic and interpersonal skills will be emphasized.

- Familiarize students with diagnostic tools that are used frequently in Emergency Medicine.
- Familiarize students with evidence-based treatments in Emergency Medicine.
- Familiarize students with the appropriate follow up once treatment is initiated.

Educational Activities: Students will participate in educational activities available at Bethesda Hospital East.
