Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship Teaching Sites
The FAU Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship takes place in a variety of sites carefully chosen to provide fellows with the depth and breadth of experiences necessary to produce well-rounded palliative medicine physicians. These sites include:
Baptist Health Boca Ration Regional Hospital
In 1967, Boca Raton Regional Hospital was established as a not-for-profit community hospital. Since then, it has evolved into a leading tertiary care facility with 400 beds and a medical staff of over 800 primary care and specialty physicians. It is one of just four hospitals in Palm Beach County recognized by the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. Additionally, the hospital earned the distinction of being ranked #1 in Palm Beach County and among the top in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for 2020–2021. To meet the increasing healthcare demands of the community, the hospital is currently expanding its capacity with additional beds.
In partnership with Florida Atlantic University, BRRH is one of the host sites for medical students and internal medicine, neurology and surgery residents and pulmonary critical care fellows.
Delray Medical Center
For more than 35 years, Delray Medical Center (DMC), has served the communities of South Palm Beach County. As both a community hospital and Level I Trauma Center located on a 42-acre medical plaza, DMC has the ability to offer several specialized services including cardiac care, a comprehensive stroke center, neurosciences, emergency care, oncology, a wound treatment center, and more. Also located here are Pinecrest Rehabilitation Hospital and Fair Oaks Behavioral Health Services.
DMC has over 530 beds; 18,000 admissions; 79,000 outpatient visits; and 42,000 ED visits per year. Five separate Intensive Care Units support care of the surgery, trauma, medical, neurosurgical, and cardiac/medical patients. To continually meet the needs of the growing local community, DMC recently expanded by adding a new patient tower, which includes 96 private patient rooms, a comprehensive cardiovascular clinic including cardiac rehabilitation, an expanded laboratory, and the latest imaging technology.

Trustbridge
Since 1978, Hospice of Palm Beach County and Hospice by the Sea have defined compassionate, not-for-profit hospice care, serving nearly 200,000 families in the Palm Beach and Broward counties. In 2014, Trustbridge was created to combine these two innovative organizations and their affiliates.
Serving an average of 1,900 patients daily, Trustbridge’s hospice programs go above and beyond what Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance provide under the normal hospice benefit, such as palliative surgery, clinical massage therapy, music therapy, and an extensive grief support program. Through an interdisciplinary approach to care and an open access philosophy, the hospice care group works with each patient’s primary physician to enhance the end-of-life experience. Every case is managed by a registered nurse, who is assisted by certified nursing assistants, social workers, spiritual care counselors, music therapists, bereavement counselors, and volunteers.
Charles Levitetz Advanced Symptom and Support Individualized Care (CLASSIC) Program
The Charles Levitetz Advanced Symptom and Support Individualized Care (CLASSIC) Program offers an extra layer of support for patients undergoing treatment at the Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute. As one of the area’s only outpatient palliative care programs, CLASSIC provides compassionate and comprehensive cancer care by focusing on the whole patient.
Center for Hematology-Oncology
The Center for Hematology-Oncology (CHO) is part of the Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute of Boca Raton Regional Hospital. The Lynn Cancer Institute is one of the largest cancer centers in South Florida and is accredited as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the American College of Surgeons. It treats an estimated 4,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients each year at its various facilities including the Center for Hematology-Oncology with sites in Boca Raton and Delray Beach.
The Lynn Cancer Institute - CHO offers a multimodal treatment approach and advanced technology as well as a research center and an array of support services including cancer support groups and wellness programs, nutrition services, psychosocial services, and financial counselors.
Radiation Oncology
Radiation Oncology is part of the Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute of Boca Raton Regional Hospital (see above). Patients receive multimodality cancer care at locations in Boca Raton and Delray Beach using technologies designed to deliver the most effective treatment while maximizing quality of life.
Pediatric Oncology Support Team
The Pediatric Oncology Support Team (POST) gives free, family-centered support to children with cancer and their families living in six counties in Southeast Florida including Palm Beach County. The majority of the children receive treatment at three area hospitals including St. Mary’s Medical Center, which is one of the consortium hospitals partnering with Florida Atlantic University in educating residents and fellows. POST services include individual & family counseling, support groups, sibling support, medical play & procedural support, wish referral and coordination, and survivorship support. POST also supports families in school advocacy, financial assistance, and giving healing social events and outings, end-of-life support, and bereavement service.
John Knox Village
In 2024, John Knox Village ranked #1 Best Skilled Nursing Home in Florida in Newsweek's America's Best Nursing Homes list. It is one of just a small handful of communities awarded with the Governor's Gold Seal. It caters to residents who need around-the-clock skilled nursing and support with activities of daily living.
