Faculty Assembly Medical Student Promotions and Professional Standards Committee

The Medical Student Promotions and Professional Standards Committee (MSPPSC) plays a pivotal role in evaluating the overall performance of all medical students, making crucial determinations regarding student standing, progression, graduation, and disciplinary actions, including dismissal. The committee assesses student performance based on the FAU MD Educational Program Goals and Physician Competency Reference Set (PCRS) competencies, using various measures across academic and clinical settings. Comprising ten voting faculty members, including the MSPPSC chair, the committee's membership includes appointed representatives responsible for curriculum leadership, such as course directors and associate directors, as well as elected faculty members from both the Biomedical Science Department and Clinical Science Departments.

Elected members serve three-year terms, with staggered initial terms to ensure continuity. The committee also includes ex officio members, including the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions, the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, and a designated staff member who serves as the secretary to the MSPPSC. The committee's important work ensures the maintenance of high academic and professional standards among medical students, with provisions for an appeals process outlined in the College of Medicine Student Handbook.
