Room Change or Swap

ROOM CHANGE OR SWAP

The room change and swap process happens each semester, typically beginning the third week of classes, Housing and Residential Education offers students the option to swap or change their rooms. Please note that Housing and Residential Education will not change a room assignment due to race, religion, or sexual orientation.

Housing and Residential Education considers room change requests based on the nature of the request and available space. Students who request housing modifications or accommodations must register with Student Accessibility Services. Please note that room change requests are only requests, and our ability to make any changes depends upon space availability.

Housing and Residential Education’s room change process will be available starting on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

What is a Room Swap?

Swapping rooms is a mutual agreement between two residents.

Both students seeking to swap room spaces with each other should email their Hall Coordinator to request a room swap. Once the room swap is approved, the Operations Coordinator will schedule a meeting to schedule the room swap. Meeting times are held between 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Students who are swapping into a different room type that is more expensive will have an increase in their room charges. It is the student's responsibility to be familiar with the housing rates. Students should plan for an increase in their student account for additional room charges within two business days.

Students can anticipate a response for a room swap request in 5-10 business days.

What is a Room Change?

A room change involves moving to an empty space in another room.

Prior to requesting a room change, the student should have met with their RA and completed a roommate agreement. In many instances, we request that students complete a roommate mediation instead of a room change.

Students requesting a room change should email their Hall Coordinator at their current residence hall to request a room change. The Hall Coordinator will schedule a meeting with the student to discuss the room change request between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. During the meeting, students can indicate their preferred halls or room types; however, single rooms are seldom available for room changes.

Room change requests are subject to availability and are not guaranteed.
