Overview
It is common practice to not place smoke detectors in residential kitchens. Smoke from normal cooking and kitchen activities will trigger the detector causing a nuisance alarm. This is concerning because there are so many components of a kitchen that are a serious fire risk. Our project seeks to solve this issue and create a fire and smoke detection system for home kitchens that does not have this nuisance alarm problem.
Community Benefit
We found that there is a considerable risk that is unmitigated in everyone's home and this device can seriously help save lives and limit destruction of property. This device has serious potential if adopted at considerable scale and could reduce risk and make homeownership just a little bit less stressful. This device might also be able to lower insurance costs with the reduced risk with savings offsetting the cost of the device.
