ALOP AUV

ALOP AUV

Overview

Inspection of bridges can be an incredibly time intensive process as both in and out of water bridge elements must be examined. All-Operational-Aerial Unmanned Vehicle or simply ALOP AUV was conceived for the purpose of transitioning between the mediums of air and water to perform bridge inspections via stereo imaging. Currently there are no commercial or private products capable of performing such a task.

Community Benefit

The ALOP AUV was developed to combat time intensive and costly inspection of bridges that span over bodies of water. The ability to demonstrate the capability that transitioning between the mediums of air and water is achievable while simultaneously using a vehicle that was nearly entirely 3D printed is significant, and a tremendous step forward in clearing a path for future research in this area.
