Wi-Fi Speed Testing Robot
Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Overview
This project evaluates the signal strength levels, frequencies, and channels of all the Wi-Fi signals present in a particular area, providing a “heat map” of location vs. Wi-Fi parameters in that area of evaluation, with a granularity of 10cm square cell area. The measurement is done autonomously using a Turtlebot robot as means of mobility and RFID for positioning determination.
Community Benefit: By having an accurate measurement of the Wi-Fi environment in an area, planners and IT personnel can optimize the use of networking resources, while at the same time, increasing and improving the Wi-Fi coverage in areas with poor or non-existing service.
