Path Prediction to Track Drug Smuggling Marine Vessels
Sponsored by: Sponsored by: The US Navy, Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Weapons School
Abstract
Our project is a static web application that assists the U.S. Navy in tracking the location of enemy vessels (e.g. drug smuggling submarines). It utilizes both real-time data that is entered by an operator and the long-term historical data that the Navy has on file, in order to predict the future location of a tracked vessel. This is done through non-parametric machine learning techniques and displayed in a probability heatmap. Community Benefit: A higher success rate for tracking vessels means that less illegal substances will arrive in the country.
