Algae Slayer 3000
Abstract
The Algae Slayer 3000 employs a filtering centrifuge to separate algae from freshwater systems. A rotating drum lined with a porous filter allows for the separation to occur due to the difference in densities of algae and water. Using onboard motor controllers and flow sensing applications allows filtration to occur in various settings. Contaminated algae water flows in, and clean water flows out. Algae Slayer 3000 is a lightweight, efficient and effective solution to removing algae from a freshwater system with virtually zero impact on the surrounding environment. This design will address the issues of uncontrollable algae blooms that occur in the state of Florida causing harm to wildlife, aquatic systems and water quality. Furthermore, algae can be recycled and implemented in a wide range of applications, including renewable energy. Biodiesel, ethanol and methane are transportation fuels that are derived from algae. Algae can also be used as feed for cattle, and marine animals such as shrimp. Our goal is to implement a feasible and sustainable solution to clean algae from freshwater systems while leaving the environment unharmed.
