SoC - Irrigation Monitoring
Overview
Our irrigation monitoring systems use a variety of sensors built around detecting environmental variables. We have designed a low-power and inexpensive system that is replicable, solar powered, and able to communicate with ease in a community of devices. Many of these systems can be connected to a single gateway that will act as a controller to form a section of a farm. These gateways will have the ability to communicate the data gathered over much larger distances to a HUB, which will act as the overall controller of the gateways. This allows the solar powered devices to remain in sleep mode when not in use and run on a small battery. The HUB will be run by a CVA6 processor which will be capable of processing incoming data from hundreds of sensor system devices.
Community Benefit
This irrigation monitoring system could provide local farmers, whether private or commercial, with the ability to precisely assess the current environmental variables in each section of their farm. This includes soil moisture levels, light, temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. These readings will be taken all over the farm and gathered for analysis on one easy to operate HUB. Irrigation monitoring practices help farmers reduce water waste from run off and overwatering of plants, which could lead to an increase in produce production.
