Disruption Tolerant Network (DTN) for Wildlife Monitoring

Project 18

Overview

The project is focused on implementing a Disruption Tolerant Network (DTN) for wildlife monitoring at Skukuza Research Station, utilizing three Raspberry Pi 4 Model B variants. Each Raspberry Pi serves a distinct role in the network: data collection, intermediary, and gateway. This setup ensures robust data transmission in challenging environments, and the system also features a website to display the wildlife photos relayed through the DTN for real-time monitoring and analysis.

Community Benefit

This solution benefits conservation researchers and ecologists by offering a more resilient and efficient method for data collection through the Disruption Tolerant Network (DTN). The system provides continuous, low-impact wildlife monitoring, reducing manual effort and operational costs. This enhanced capability aids in biodiversity preservation and provides critical data to inform wildlife protection and habitat conservation policies, fostering more effective research and conservation efforts.
