AR to Enable Supported Employment and Independent Living

Project 14

Overview

The primary objective of this project is to design and implement an augmented reality (AR) application capable of assisting individuals with disabilities or those requiring supported employment. Using the Unity engine and AR technology, the application provides real-time guidance for task completion by understanding and mapping the user's environment. This solution empowers users to gain greater independence and confidence in their daily tasks by completing tasks step-by-step and tracking users. Our innovative approach targets a previously unmet need, focusing on delivering assistance and long-term training for increased self-reliance.

Community Benefit

This project has the potential to significantly enhance the lives of individuals who require assistance in daily tasks, fostering a more inclusive community. By utilizing AR technology and spatial mapping, our solution provides guidance that empowers users to complete tasks independently. The broader community stands to benefit from the increased independence of these individuals, reducing the need for in-person assistance and enabling more self-sufficiency. Beyond improving quality of life, this project encourages a more supportive and inclusive society where everyone, regardless of ability, can actively contribute and engage in their environment.
