city of dania beach direct potable reuse project (trident engineering)
Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering
Overview
The City of Hollywood is looking to reduce flows to its ocean outfall per Florida Statutes. One option asks that certain large customers, such as the City of Dania Beach, reduce their contribution to the ocean outfall by siphoning off their flows and treating the wastewater themselves. This project includes a feasibility study for Dania Beach to divert a portion (or all) of its raw wastewater flows to a new wastewater treatment plant. This plant will use the treated wastewater for water supply purposes to feed its current lime softening system. The feasibility study will incorporate a complete design for a 20-year design horizon and will create a minimum LEED-Gold certification (or equivalent) for the new development.
Community Benefit: Creating a new wastewater treatment plant will provide the necessary level of service, protect the environment, and accommodate future population growth. The plant is designed to clean wastewater so it can be safely returned to the environment, which is an effective cost-saving measure for the city. It also reduces the demand and stress on fresh water supply.
