Autonomous Assistive Retrieval and Fitness Bot A.A.R.F

Overview

The A.A.R.F system autonomously launches and retrieves a ball in both indoor and outdoor environments. The launching system has the ability to detect when a ball has been loaded, and upon launch, allows for a dog to retrieve the ball. If it is retrieved and returned, the system will enter launching mode. If the ball has not been returned, the retrieval system is activated. In this mode, the system will find and store the ball until the next time it is activated to play.

Community Benefit: The A.A.R.F system design and concept stemmed from the team’s desire to help those in the disabled community with exercising their dogs. The system, when fully charged, can help a dog maintain up to 30-45 minutes of activity. A well-exercised dog allows for better trainability and benefits their overall well-being.
