Wearable Environment Awareness System
Abstract
Our objective is to design and implement a wearable sensor system for first responders as they encounter situations where certain environmental data could assist them in assessing situations properly, maneuvering through hazardous situations more smoothly, and ensure first responder safety. All the sensors and equipment are outfitted to a general fit H-Harness to simulate first responder equipment. The sensor choices for this system are a thermal IR for real time visual temperature readings, a Micro Lidar for distance gauging of objects and temperature readings, a body cam for live feed and personal accountability, a GPS module for whereabouts of the system, and a Carbon monoxide detector to simulate hazardous odorless gas detection. All the sensor data is uploaded through WIFI to a database for storage and displayed on a web user interface. This allows for a second person to assist the first responder in assessing and maneuvering through certain situations. The expected outcome of this project is to have a working prototype and a functional back end application. We want our users to be aware and have access to real time information in their current environment that is essential and important for their well-being and safety.
