Transit Safety and SecurityFMRI & Co-hosted by the ITE FAU Student Chapter Ms. Godfrey will discuss the Safety Standards Development Program and the Safety Research Demonstration Program that she works on for the Federal Transit Administration, and some of the work she has completed for the Florida Department of Transportation, focused on hiring and retaining employees in the transit industry and how to recognize and respond to human trafficking situations. Stantec Global ITS PracticeFMRI & Co-hosted by the WTS FAU Student Chapter Sama will talk about some of the key International ITS projects she has worked on including: Truck Safety Information System for Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT): this project is about the design of a driver information system to reduce truck crashes in a portion of I-70 in Colorado, System Engineering Analysis (SEA) for a Traffic Management Center (TMC) design in Oklahoma, this project is on performing SEA to design a full-blown TMC in Norman Oklahoma. This includes design of the TMC space, network, consoles, staffing, etc, and Las Vegas Medical District Automated Circulator and Connected Pedestrian Safety Program, this project is about design and deployment of four self-driving shuttles in Las Vegas Medical district. . Smart Freight Transportation: Last Mile Logistics Challenges in the “New Normal”
Workshop at the 26th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2023)
This workshop will address the “last mile” during the “New Normal” by discussing critical issues affecting freight transportation, planners, and policy makers. Also, it will identify innovative strategies and technologies which are being employed/developed to facilitate ‘smart freight transportation’ / ‘last mile’ delivery challenges from around the world. Additionally, it will analyze the adaptation of various newly emerged initiatives after the pandemic era. Examples of initiatives are sustainable logistics, methods for last-mile deliveries, logistics terminal’s location, and operations and smart freight initiatives. The workshop format will follow a half-day panel discussion. Digital Transformation in Supply Chain: Transportation Infrastructure Integration and InteroperabilityFMRI & Co-hosted by the WTS FAU Student Chapter Key goal is to provide the methodological background for developing an observatory (platform) towards integration and interoperability of transportation infrastructure in terms of digital transformation acceleration in the supply chain business ecosystem. The platform concerns essentially an ecosystem of raw and complex data, providing a large network of services aimed at supporting decision systems and applications in terms of infrastructure accessibility, supply chain business development, service evaluation and data integration in the context of destination marketing, with emphasis on the critical region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in Greece. The main objective of the platform is to assist decision support systems towards sustainability through the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and business intelligence tools (BI), which provide significant analyses over a series of performance indicators for supporting business planning and financial performance monitoring. Measuring Performance in Transportation EnterprisesFMRI & Co-hosted by the ITE FAU Student Chapter The impact of transport connectivity and accessibility on the regional economy is of great importance because it reflects the economic profile of the region it serves and, in many cases, acts as a key driver of economic development on a regional or national scale. It is noteworthy that regions provide a high level of air transport services and connectivity to larger markets, achieving higher economic benefits in terms of unemployment, business productivity, and income per capita. Especially for the tourism regions where the domestic income heavily depends on air transport and tourism performance, decisions on improving accessibility and level of service are crucial for economic growth and social coherence. This presentation will highlight the methodology used to evaluate the performance of transport infrastructure in the regional or national economy. Transforming Network Equilibrium Analysis Paradigm via End-to-End LearningFMRI & Co-hosted by the ITE FAU Student Chapter In this presentation, Dr. Yin will share some results from their recent research that intends to transform transportation network equilibrium modeling paradigm via end-to-end learning. Their research was motivated by observing that existing equilibrium analysis paradigm has been established via a "bottom-up" approach, in which, e.g., the selection of behavior model for travel choices or the calibration of the supply function, is divorced from the end goal of the model building, i.e., prescribing an equilibrium flow distribution that matches observations as closely as possible. Leveraging recent advancements in game theory and machine learning, they hope to develop an end-to-end framework that directly learns the demand- or/and supply-side components and the equilibrium state from empirical data.
