Florida Atlantic University’s Taghi M. Khoshgoftaar, the Motorola Endowed Chair Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and director of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Big Data Training and Research Laboratory within the College of Engineering and Computer Science, is listed in the 2021 seventh edition of “Top Scientists Ranking for Computer Science & Electronics.” The ranking, prepared by Guide2Research, is one of the leading portals for computer science research providing trusted data on scientific contributions since 2015.

The Top Scientists Ranking for Computer Science & Electronics lists all leading computer scientists affiliated with United States. Khoshgoftaar and other scientists were ranked based on H-index (an author-level metric that measures both the productivity and citation impact of the publications of a scientist or scholar), DBLP, a computer science bibliography website, and citations values.

Khoshgoftaar is ranked No. 432 in the nation and ranked No. 720 in the world for computer science, artificial intelligence and machine learning. He is the highest-ranking professor in these fields from a Florida public university. Khoshgoftaar’s Google H-index is 78; his number of Google citations is 30,783; and the number of his articles on DBLP is 524. Only leading scientists with an H-index of at least 40 are included. There is a total of 2,782 researchers with an H-index greater than 40 included and 613 of them also are listed in the world ranking.

“Professor Khoshgoftaar’s impressive ranking both nationally and internationally in the 2021‘Top Scientists Ranking for Computer Science & Electronics’ is a testament to his numerous contributions and outstanding achievements in computer science, artificial intelligence and machine learning,” said Stella  Batalama, Ph.D., dean, College of Engineering and Computer Science. “This important distinction and well-deserved recognition for professor Khoshgoftaar is a great honor for our College of Engineering and Computer Science and for Florida Atlantic University. We couldn’t be more proud.”

The key analysis of the Top Scientists Ranking, which is a definitive list of leading scientists from the field of computer science and electronics, is based on a detailed examination of more than 6,300 profiles on Google Scholar and DBLP. Ranking is only available for the top 1,000 scientists in the U.S.

Khoshgoftaar’s research interests are in big data analytics, data mining and machine learning, health informatics and bioinformatics, fraud detection, social network mining, security analytics, and software engineering. He has published more than 800 refereed journal and conference papers in these areas. He has mentored and graduated 33 Ph.D. level graduate students and 62 master’s level graduate students at FAU and received the inaugural (2008) excellence in graduate mentoring award at FAU.

Khoshgoftaar also has garnered several millions of dollars in research projects at FAU and has made extraordinary and unmatched contributions in the formation of the university’s computer science graduate programs and the research conducted because of founding these programs. He served as the conference chair of the IEEE Big Data Service in 2020 and was the conference chair of the IEEE International Conference on Machine Learning and Applications (ICMLA 2019). In addition to these conferences, he has served as the primary conference organizer (conference or program chair) of numerous international conferences. Khoshgoftaar is a co-founder of multiple international conferences and has served on organizational and technical program committees for various international conferences, symposia and workshops. He has been a keynote speaker at multiple international conferences and has given many invited talks at various venues.

Khoshgoftaar is co-editor-in chief of the Journal of Big Data. He also served as the North American editor of the Software Quality Journal, and was on the editorial boards of the journals Multimedia Tools and Applications; Knowledge and Information Systems; Empirical Software Engineering; Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering; and Social Network Analysis and Mining.
