by Gisele Galoustian | Wednesday, Mar 20, 2019Kwangsoo Yang, Ph.D. and Oscar Curet, Ph.D., join a list of individuals at FAU’s College of Engineering & Computer Science to receive the National Science Foundation award, which represents innovation, leadership and excellence.
Kwangsoo Yang, Ph.D., receives NSF CAREER Award for Emergency Management Information Systems
The project in FAU’s College of Engineering and Computer Science will focus on evacuation route planning, resource assignment, and transportation resilience. The goals of this five-year project, “CAREER: Spatial Network Database Approach for Emergency Management Information Systems (EMIS),” are to identify promising solutions for addressing the challenge of EMIS and to develop an advanced spatial query processing platform that clearly and succinctly delivers critical information in emergencies.
Bio-inspired Robotic Fin Will Enhance Ocean Exploration and Defense
Mimicking the seamless motion of how fish swim and use their fins to maneuver their way within the ocean depths has landed Oscar M. Curet, Ph.D., at Florida Atlantic University's College of Engineering and Computer Science with a prestigious $500,000 National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award. Dr. Curet has been observing animals in nature and has developed bio-inspired flexible structures that increase maneuverability and enhance the motion of underwater vehicles and robotic systems.
