Organizational Structure
Research part of the NRT project is handled by NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Advanced Knowledge Enablement (CAKE) at FAU, which was established in 2009 and is currently in Phase II. Dr. Furht is the Director of the the I/UCRC CAKE Center as well as PI of the proposed NRT program. In the period from 2009 to 2020, the Center had 37 company members with the total memberships of more than $6 million. The Center successfully completed 45 applied industry projects. Newly created Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (DS-AI) will be used for testbeds as well as for various transdisciplinary research projects. FAU Tech Runway with over 30 start-up companies provides the opportunity for students to work on real world problems and learn about entrepreneurship. In addition, FAU Research Park, which currently has more than 40 already established companies, provides another opportunity for research collaboration. The NRT program will produce Master and PhD graduates in data science and analytics, who will be trained to immediately contribute working for high-tech industry and educational institutions.
