NRT Cohort 1 Completion
Wednesday, May 18, 2022It is with great pleasure that we announce the successful completion of the first cohort of NRT students. We had a total of five fully funded students from different disciplines such as Nursing, Economics, Information Technology and Management, Ocean Engineering, and Computer Science receive certificates in NSF – HDR Graduate Traineeship in Data Science Technologies and Applications. Additionally, we had one non-funded student who also completed the program. These students being a mix of master’s degree and Ph.D. students have acquired new knowledge that will help them in the workforce.
Our students completed many projects, and they had a great experience collaborating with each other and learning how to apply skills in different fields. A group of students is currently pursuing publication on a paper they wrote jointly as a team. With the help of a great mentor, professor, another NRT student is part of a group that developed a patent application. Students had the opportunity to participate in different research labs of their interest under the guidance of experienced professors. They also had the opportunity to learn and interact with members from industry who provided guidance and perspective on how different concepts being taught can be applied in the real world. They provided explanation and made that connection between skills being taught and real-life experiences which they will soon be facing.
Data Science, Data Mining, Computer Applications, Machine Learning, Programming, Artificial Intelligence, are among the many science and technology fields strongly needed to move forward in this generation. Technology grows fast and we need talented individuals ready to decipher, analyze, and create as we move forward.
Congratulations to Erika Cardenas, Connor Hammock, Erwin Horvath, Shamera Lajic, Breanna Levarity, and Ashan Perera.
