Wednesday, Jan 24, 2024On January 24th, 2024, the NRT students had the pleasure to meet Golden Madume who serves as the liaison for the College of Engineering and The Career Center at FAU. He provided the students with ample resources and tips when it comes to getting ready for a job.
Some of the items he shared:
- Resume samples and guidance as to how to organize each section
- What to add if you have no work experience to list yet

- Internship opportunities in exchange for credits – he informed students on how they are eligible to receive 3 credits (replacing 1 technical elective) from their degree in trade of a paid or unpaid internship with industry or even on campus
- Micro-internships which are short term projects formed by companies, usually taking around 15 hours to complete provide students an opportunity to earn money and helps them get that experience on their resume! Students work on real life projects!
- The Career Center offers students coaches to review their resume, practice an elevator pitch, get professional photos, and even provide the right outfit. Their closet has free outfits students can take to ensure they wear professional attire to the interviews.
- Job Scan- free software tool which scans resume and provides a score to show how well it would go through when applying using online ATS systems. The goal is to score 80% or above.
- Also shared other software available that provides sample technical questions that can be given during interviews, sample questions that have actually been used by the respective companies
- Many information sessions with companies, meet the company representatives on campus, opportunities to network, share resumes, and possibly score an interview right away!
