Wednesday, Oct 26, 2022
The 2022 NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) Annual Meeting was held on October 17th to 19th , 2022 in Blacksburg, Virginia. The meeting took place at Virginia Tech. There were representatives from 100 NRT projects and a total of about 520 attendees (both in-person and virtual).
As per NSF recommendation, our team consisted of the PI, Dr. Borko Furht, Program Coordinator, Maria Pinto, and a trainee, graduate student Juan Merlos. The poster was about a video coding research project conducted in Dr. Kalva's lab.
The Program Coordinators were also able to share some experiences which NSF will take under consideration and provide assistance in order to improve the reporting process and dissemination of information throughout other NRT personnel. This was a truly informative meeting which provided the opportunity to witness what other NRT programs are working on as well as learn about new proposals, one being able to connect with other universities in hopes of possibly forming a partnership and take part on a summer trainee exchange experience.
Upon our return from the annual meeting, on October 24th, 2022, we met with Melissa Strickland from Creative Business Solutions, Inc. The company which is helping develop the new National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NRT) Program website: beta.nsf.gov/funding/initiatives/nrt to highlight the amazing NRT- research happening across the country and share the amazing work our students are doing.
Overall, the meeting was beneficial and we look forward to the next!
